1And the men of Ziph came to Saul in Gabaa, saying: Behold David is hid in the hill of Hachila, which is over against the wilderness.
1Ziphim rhoek loh Gibeah kah Saul te a paan uh tih, “Khopong hmai kah Hakhilah som ah aka thuh uh ke David pawt nim?” a ti uh.
2And Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
2Te dongah Saul te thoo tih Ziph khosoek ah David tlap ham te Israel kah a coelh hlang thawng thum neh Ziph khosoek la suntla.
3And Saul encamped in Gabaa Hachila, which was over against the wilderness in the way: and David abode in the wilderness. And seeing that Saul was come after him into the wilderness,
3Khopong imdan, Hakhilah som kah longpuei taengah Saul te rhaeh. David tah khosoek ah kho a sak tih Saul loh khosoek la a hnuk a vai te a hmuh.
4He sent spies, and learned that he was most certainly come thither.
4David loh longyam a tueih daengah Saul he rhep ha pawk tila a ming.
5And David arose secretly, and came to the place where Saul was: and when he had beheld the place, wherein Saul slept, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army, and Saul sleeping in a tent, and the rest of the multitude round about him,
5Te dongah David te thoo tih Saul a rhaeh nah hmuen te a pha. Te vaengah Saul neh anih kah caempuei mangpa Ner capa Abner a yalh nah hmuen te David loh a hmuh. Saul te namtlak ah yalh tih a kaep, a kaep ah pilnam loh a rhaeh thil.
6David spoke to Achimelech the Hethite, and Abisai the son of Sarvia the brother of Joab, saying: Who will go down with me to Saul into the camp? And Abisai said: I will go with thee.
6Te dongah David loh a doo tih Khitti Ahimelek neh Joab mana Zeruiah capa Abishai te a dawt. Te dongah, “Rhaehhmuen kah Saul taengla kamah neh ulae aka suntla eh?” a ti nah hatah Abishai loh, “Kai loh nang kan suntlak puei bitni,” a ti nah.
7So David and Abisai came to the people by night, and found Saul lying and sleeping in the tent, and his spear fixed in the ground at his head: and Abner and the people sleeping round about him.
7Te dongah David neh Abishai loh pilnam te khoyin ah a paan. Te vaengah Saul tah namtlak ah muelh yalh tih a caai te a lu, a lu ah diklai la tlaeh. A kaep, a kaep ah Abner neh pilnam te yalh.
8And Abisai said to David: God hath shut up thy enemy this day into thy hands: now then I will run him through with my spear even to the earth at once, and there shall be no need of a second time.
8Te vaengah Abishai loh David te, “Tihnin ah tah na thunkha he Pathen loh na kut dongah han tloeng coeng. Te dongah anih caai neh diklai ah voei at la ka ngawn eh?, anih te ka rhaep mah pawh,” a ti nah.
9And David said to Abisai: Kill him not: for who shall put forth his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and shall be guiltless?
9Tedae David loh Abishai te, “Anih te phae boeh, BOEIPA kah a koelh soah ulae a kut aka hlah vetih a hmil uh eh?” a ti nah.
10And David said: As the Lord liveth, unless the Lord shall strike him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall go down to battle and perish:
10Te phoeiah David loh, “BOEIPA kah hingnah bangla, BOEIPA loh a toel tue ha thoeng vetih duek bitni. Caemtloek la a suntlak vaengah khoengvoep uh bitni.
11The Lord be merciful unto me, that I extend not my hand upon the Lord’s anointed. But now take the spear, which is at his head, and the cup of water, and let us go.

12So David took the spear, and the cup of water which was at Saul’s head, and they went away: and no man saw it, or knew it, or awaked, but they were all asleep, for a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.
12Te dongah Saul lu kah tui um neh caai te David loh a loh pah. Muelh ih ham te BOEIPA loh amih boeih soah a pha sak dongah haenghang uh pawh. Te dongah amih a caeh tak khaw hmu uh pawt tih ming uh pawh.
13And when David was gone over to the other side. and stood on the top of the hill afar off, and a good space was between them,

14David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying: Wilt thou not answer, Abner? And Abner answering, said: Who art thou, that criest, and disturbest the king?
14Te phoeiah David loh pilnam neh Ner capa Abner te a khue tih, “Abner, na doo mahpawt a?” a ti nah. Te dongah Abner loh a doo tih, “Namah loh ulae manghai la na khue,” a ti nah.
15And David said to Abner: Art not thou a man? and who is like thee in Israel? why then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to kill the king thy lord.
15David loh Abner te, “Na hlang pawt nim? Israel khuiah nang bang he unim? Balae tih na boei manghai te na ngaithuen pawh? Na boei rhoek kah manghai te thup hamla pilnam pakhat ha pawk coeng.
16This thing is not good, that thou hast done: as the Lord liveth, you are the sons of death, who have not kept your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now where is the king’s spear, and the cup of water, which was at his head?
16Hno na saii te a then moenih. BOEIPA kah hingnah dongah, BOEIPA loh na boei rhoek soah a koelh thil te na ngaithuen pawt dongah na duek ca ngawn sui dae. Tahae ah so lah a lu kah manghai caai neh tui um ta melae,” a ti nah.
17And Saul knew David’s voice, and said: Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said: It is my voice, my lord the king.
17Te vaengah David ol te Saul loh a hmat tih, “Ka ca David nang ol a he?' a ti nah. Te dongah David loh,” Kai ol ni ue, ka boei manghai aw,” a ti nah.
18And he said: Wherefore doth my lord persecute his servant? What have I done? or what evil is there in my hand?
18Te phoeiah, “Ka boeipa long he balae tih a sal hnuk a hloem? Balae ka saii tih, ka kut dongkah he mebang boethae nim?
19Now therefore hear, I pray thee, my lord the king, the words of thy servant: If the Lord stir thee up against me, let him accept of sacrifice: but if the sons of men, they are cursed in the sight of the Lord, who have cast me out this day, that I should not dwell in the inheritance of the Lord, saying: Go, serve strange gods.
19Ka boei manghai long khaw a sal ol he ya van laem saeh. BOEIPA loh kai soah nang m'vueh atah khocang he him saeh. Tedae hlang ca rhoek atah BOEIPA mikhmuh ah amih thaephoei thil saeh. 20And now let not my blood be shed upon the earth before the Lord: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as the partridge is hunted in the mountains.
20Israel manghai loh tlang ah varhung aka hloem bangla uihli pakhat tlap ham ha pawk cakhaw BOEIPA mikhmuh mikhmuh lamloh ka thii he lai la tlak sak boel saeh,” a ti nah.
21And Saul said: I have sinned, return, my son David, for I will no more do thee harm, because my life hath been precious in thy eyes this day: for it appeareth that I have done foolishly, and have been ignorant in very many things.
21Saul loh, “Ka ca David ha mael laeh ka tholh oeh coeng. Nang taengah thae koep ka huet voel mahpawh. Ka hinglu he na mikhmuh ah a phutlo dae, tihnin ah ka pavai tih ka palang tangkik aih coeng he,” a ti nah.
22And David answering, said: Behold the king’s spear: let one of the king’s servants come over and fetch it.
22Te dongah David loh a doo tih, “Hekah caai he, manghai kah caai ni, tahae ah camoe pakhat loh ham paan saeh lamtah han lo saeh.
23And the Lord will reward every one according to his justice, and his faithfulness: for the Lord hath delivered thee this day into my hand, and I would not put forth my hand against the Lord’s anointed.

24And as thy life hath been much set by this day in my eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the Lord, and let him deliver me from all distress.

25Then Saul said to David: Blessed art thou, my son David: and truly doing thou shalt do, and prevailing thou shalt prevail. And David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
