1Then all Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.
1Israel kaminawk loe David khaeah Hebron ah angzoh o boih moe, kaicae loe nang ih ahuh hoi athii angan ah ni ka oh o.
2Even in times past, while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them back. And the LORD your God said, ‘You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over them.’”
2Canghniah Saul siangpahrang ah oh naah mataeng doeh, nangmah ni Israel kaminawk to na zaeh; to naah na Angraeng Sithaw mah nang khaeah, Kai ih kami Israelnawk hae na pacah ueloe, kai ih kami Israelnawk ukkung ah na om tih, tiah ang thuih boeh, tiah a thuih pae o.
3So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, where David made a covenant with them before the LORD. And they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD through Samuel.
3Israel kacoehtanawk David khaeah Hebron ah angzoh o boih pacoengah, David mah Hebron ah nihcae hoi Angraeng hmaa ah lokmaihaih to sak; to pacoengah Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah suek ih lok baktih toengah, David to Israel siangpahrang ah suek o.
4Then David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus), where the Jebusites inhabited the land.
4David hoi Israelnawk boih Jerusalem (Jebus) ah caeh o; to ahmuen ah kaom kaminawk loe Jebus kami ah oh o.
5The people of Jebus said to David, “You will never get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion (that is, the City of David).
5Jebus ah kaom kaminawk mah David khaeah, Hae thungah na kun thai mak ai, tiah a naa o; toe David mah David ih vangpui, tiah kawk ih, Zion ih misa abuephaih kacak parai sipae to lak.
6Now David had said, “Whoever is the first to strike down a Jebusite will become chief commander.” And Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, and he became the chief.
6David mah, Kamianwk khaeah Jebus kaminawk tuh hmaloe kami loe, misatuh angraeng ah om tih, tiah a naa. Zeruiah capa Joab loe hmaloe ah angthawk moe, a caeh, to pongah anih loe misatuh angraeng ah oh.
7So David took up residence in the fortress; that is why it was called the City of David.
7David mah misa abuephaih sipae kaom ahmuen to a ohhaih ahmuen ah sak pongah, David ih vangpui, tiah kawk o.
8He built up the city around it, from the supporting terraces to the surrounding wall, while Joab restored the rest of the city.
8Anih mah Millo, tiah kawk ih ahmuen hoi a taeng boih ah vangpui to sak; kalah vangpuinawk loe Joab mah sak pakhraih.
9And David became greater and greater, for the LORD of Hosts was with him.
9Misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng mah oh haih pongah, David loe len aep aep.
10Now these were the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who, together with all Israel, bolstered and strengthened his kingdom, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
10Israel kaminawk khaeah Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, David to siangpahrang ah suek hanah, prae thungah kaom thacak ukkungnawk hoi Israel kaminawk boih mah anih to thapaek o.
11This is the list of David’s mighty men: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni was chief of the officers; he wielded his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed at one time.
11Hae kaminawk loe David ih thacak kami ah oh o; Hakmon acaeng, Jashobeam loe misatuh angraengnawk ukkung ah oh; anih loe tayae hoiah misa cumvai thumtonawk to vaito ah hum boih.
12Next in command was Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men.
12Anih pacoengah Ahoah acaeng, Dodo capa Eleazar doeh thacak kami thumto thungah athum toeng.
13He was with David at Pas-dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. At the place with a field full of barley, the troops fled from the Philistines.
13Philistinnawk loe misatuk hanah barli cang patithaih lawk hmuen ah amkhueng o, to naah Eleazar loe David hoi nawnto Pas-Dammim ah oh; Israel caanawk loe Philistinnawk hmaa hoiah cawn o king.
14But Eleazar and David stationed themselves in the middle of the field and defended it. They struck down the Philistines, and the LORD brought about a great victory.
14Toe nihcae loe lawk um ah anghawk o moe, Philitinnawk to a hum o, Angraeng mah nihcae to pahlong moe, loihaih to paek.
15Three of the thirty chief men went down to David, to the rock at the cave of Adullam, while a company of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
15Misatuh angraeng quithumto thung ih thumtonawk loe, David ohhaih thlungkhaw, Adullam ah caeh o tathuk; Philistinnawk loe Rephaim azawn ah atai o.
16At that time David was in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was at Bethlehem.
16David loe kacak misa abuephaih im ah oh, Philistin misatuh kaminawk loe Bethlehem ah oh o.
17David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!”
17David mah tui anghaeh naah, Aw, mi mah maw Bethlehem khongkha taeng ih tuibap tui to na thak tih? tiah thuih.
18So the Three broke through the Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the gate of Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
18To pongah to ah kaom kami thumtonawk mah Philistinnawk to muk o moe, Bethlehem khongkha taeng ih tuibap tui to dok o moe, David khaeah sin pae o; toe David mah nae pae ai; Angraeng hmaa ah a kraih pae ving,
19saying, “Far be it from me, my God, to do this! How can I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” Because they had brought it at the risk of their lives, David refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men.
19hae tui ka naek hanah, Sithaw mah ang pakaa: angmacae hinghaih mataeng doeh paawt ai ah paek kaminawk ih athii to ka naek han maw? tiah a thuih. To kaminawk loe angmacae hinghaih angpaekhaih hoiah ni tui to sin pae o. To pongah anih tui to nae pae ai. Hae ih thacak kami thunmtonawk loe to tiah tok to sak o.
20Now Abishai, the brother of Joab, was chief of the Three, and he lifted his spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name along with the Three.
20Joab ih amnawk Abishai loe, nihcae thumto zaehoikung ah oh; anih loe tayae to sinh moe, kami cumvai thumto hum; to pongah anih doeh misahoih kami thumto thungah ahmin athum toeng.
21He was doubly honored above the Three, and he became their commander, even though he was not included among the Three.
21Anih loe thacak kami thumto thung ih hnetto pongah ahmin pakoeh o kue pongah, anih loe thumto kaminawk ukkung ah oh; toe hmaloe ih thumto kaminawk to pha ai.
22And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of Moab, and on a snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
22Kabzeel vangpui ih kami, misahoih Jehoiada capa Benaiah loe, kaipui hoi kanghmong Moab kami hnetto a hum; dantui krak nathuem ah doeh longkhaw thungah kaom kaipui to a hum bae vop.
23He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s beam in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club, snatched the spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own spear.
23Somsang kahoih, dong pangato kasang, Izip kami maeto doeh a hum let bae; Izip kami loe a ban ah camprai tetto kaom tayae to sinh, toe Benaiah mah anih to thingboeng hoiah pangh moe, Izip kami ban ih tayae to a lomh pacoengah, angmah ih tayae hoiah a hum.
24These were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who won a name alongside the three mighty men.
24Jehoiada capa Benaiah mah to tiah hmuennawk to sak; anih doeh thacak thumto kaminawk baktiah ahmin amthang toeng.
25He was most honored among the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. And David appointed him over his guard.
25Khenah, anih loe kami quithumto thungah minawk mah pakoeh ih kami ah oh; toe hmaloe ih thumto kaminawk to pha ai; to pongah David mah anih to angmah misa toep kami ah suek.
